Port Wines

Port wine (also known as Vinho do Porto, Porto, and often simply Port) is a Portuguese fortified wine.  It is typically a sweet, red wine, often served as a dessert wine, and comes in dry, semi-dry, and white varieties. Fortified wines are now also produced in many other countries around the world.  Port is produced from grapes. The wine produced is then fortified by the addition of a neutral grape spirit and to boost the alcohol content. The fortification spirit is sometimes referred to as brandy but does not truly resemble the commercially available Brandy's at your local LCBO.  At Vintner' Cellar, we only use commercially available Brandy of your choice to fortify the wine as the Portuguese Spirit is not readily available in North America.
